Eastside Athlete Spotlight of the month
This months Athlete Spotlight of the month is……….
This a big drum roll……….
Juno!!!!!!!!
We managed to track this amazing woman down and ask her a few questions about her journey here at EVF.
How/when did you get involved in CrossFit? What has motivated you to stick with it?
In July 2012, a poster with a female athlete doing gymnastics caught my attention. I didn’t have any idea what Crossfit was then. I walked down the stairs and foolishly signed up for a free intro class. I was the least athletic person in the class and Coaches still treated me as if I were one of the athletes (with super modification, of course.) Coaches and fellow members have taken very good care of me since. And living upstairs has helped.
What do you enjoy most about being a member at EVF?
The sense of community, amazing powerhouse ladies, frequent occurrence of spontaneous shirts combustion, and nice bald guys.
Do you remember your first workout? Looking back how did it go?
I couldn’t lift a 10 lb plate. My box jump was stepping up on two 45lb plates. I couldn’t even hang from the bar for two seconds.
What were your goals when you first started? How have they changed?
Then: To survive and come back again.
Now: To survive and come back next day.
How have you grown in that time — health, body, mind, etc.?
I’ve come to believe.
Favorite lift and WOD?
Back squat and mobility WOD.
Least favorite movement and workout?
Everything involving a ball.
What drives you through the door each day?
EVF UES is my best anti-depressant. Being there makes me feel happy.
Do you have any advice for new members?
Once you walk down the most badass stairs in NYC, you are one of us. And keep the gym tidy, please.
What do you hope to achieve in the coming year?
Terminator 2 Linda Hamilton Psych Ward strict pull ups.
She is fun
She is fierce
She is fabulous
She is feisty
She is awesome
She is tough as nails
She is Juno, and she is ours!
No one deserves to be recognized anymore than this woman. She breathes and lives EVF. When you walk into the gym at 12:30pm you will be greeted with the biggest smile and bear hug from this little lady. If you see her on the street (and you will, as she lives right upstairs), the greeting is no different. Smile, big bear hug and lots of love. From taking pictures to making the most amazing video’s ever. She is a superstar!
Her energy is infectious and she has the biggest muscle that really matters. Her heart. Juno is as tough as they come, and will never give up in a workout. She fights till the end and will not quit until her task is complete. She loves to practice her headstands and she can box jump with the best of them. She also loves to be coached and will always listen to everything her coach ask of her.
Help us recognize this amazing woman by showing her love not just for this month but everyday she is with us. We are very lucky to have someone like Juno in our community who brings us together, makes us smile and loves each of us as much as she does.
Juno this one is for you! We love you!!!!
