How/when did you get involved in CrossFit?
I first started doing CrossFit in August of 2012 at the recommendation of an acquaintance. I’d never heard of it and had no idea what the heck I was doing when I first started, but I LOVED it and kept going back!

Do you remember your first workout? How was it?
The first workout I did was a partner WOD that involved kettlebell swings. I couldn’t do them right so the coach kept having to come over and correct my form. Two days later I did my first individual workout, which had a lot of rowing. I had trouble walking the rest of the day!

What were your goals when you first started? How have they changed?
My goal when I first started was to get really really cut hahaha. Now my goal is to just improve, de-stress, and have fun. Oh and SWEAT A WHOLE LOT.

How have you grown in that time — health, body, mind, etc.?
I have definitely grown in all facets because of CrossFit. I’ve gotten stronger and my body has changed. I’m more comfortable under muscle fatigue and exhaustion. I’ve also become a lot more disciplined.

What do you enjoy most about CrossFit?
I enjoy the community the most. Making friends and working out and getting better alongside really cool and down-to-earth people.

Favorite lift and WOD?
My favorite lift is the clean, but my favorite movement is the muscle-up. My favorite WOD is probably Fran, just because it’s so intense and exciting.

What about your least favorite?
My least favorite lift is the snatch because it’s so dang hard. My least favorite WOD is probably Karen because wall balls suck!

What motivates you?
What motivates me are the people working out around me. When I see other people giving it their all and getting better, it makes me want to do the same.

Do you have any advice for new members?
My advice for new members is to take it slow and not get frustrated if you’re not as proficient as other people around you. It takes time to learn the different movements and lifts, so just have fun and enjoy the ride. Have faith that with consistency and effort, there will surely be improvement!

What do you hope to achieve in the coming year?
In the coming year, I hope to improve my snatch PR and get a really strong core.
