CC Athlete of the Month: Chuck
“Chuck is a pleasure to have in class! Even those who don’t know him yet can see that he is a great person to be around. He brings a smile and energy to every class and loves to crack jokes mid-WOD!” – Coach Patrick
How/when did you get involved in CrossFit?
I was looking for something more interesting and fun than a regular gym workout and I came across CrossFit in 2016.
Do you remember your first workout? How was it?
I don’t recall my first workout, but I do remember that someone in the class had a birthday. Jamie, my first Crossfit coach, made everyone circle around and do 20-odd burpees for the birthday girl. I have to admit that it wasn’t very fun, especially for my first Crossfit experience, but it’s been 3 years and now I’m loving every minute.
What were your goals when you first started? How have they changed?
My goal at first was just to live a healthier life, but CrossFit has definitely changed me in many positive ways. I used to have back pain upon getting up in the morning, and always had to have a pillow to support my lower back when sleeping. Within 6 months of doing CrossFit, my back pain had completely gone away. Even my doctor suggested I keep doing CrossFit!
What do you enjoy most about CrossFit?
I always enjoy doing the workout, but to get to workout with all my friends at the gym is the thing I love most.
Favorite lift and WOD?
My favorite lift is the clean, and pretty much any WOD except one that has burpees.
What about your least favorite?
I’m not a big fan of overhead squats since I have past shoulder injuries.
What motivates you?
The energy and good vibes from my friends whenever we’re in the gym together. I also feel like everyday I’ll achieve something that makes me feel like my body is getting stronger even though in fact I’m getting older by the day! I feel like my body has stopped aging!
Do you have any advice for new members?
It takes time for movements to improve, but there is nothing you can’t do with a little hard work.
What do you hope to achieve in the coming year?
I want to get stronger and be able to do some of the workouts and movements that have been beyond my abilities.
